Apples, Applesauce, Apple Pie, Apple Butter, Appled OUT!

1004081724 Mom and I went to Missoula, MT this weekend for a weekend get away, some bonding time, and to learn how to do canning!  Annette Walker, a long time friend of my mom's has been asking me for a few years now to come help her can.  I finally had some time this year to help and we had a blast!

The drive over was fun.  Mom surprised me and stayed awake the whole drive.  I believe it was only said once, "look how beautiful it is."  Fall has arrived and the drive to Missoula is all natural forest land.  The trees are beautiful this time of year.

Saturday, Mom drove herself to Butte to go visit Grandpa, while I stayed with Annette.  In the morning, I went with John Walker (Annette's husband) to the hospital.  They were demonstrating the new surgical robot.  It was actually VERY cool to see and way easy to use.  The television people were there, so we didn't get a chance to demonstrate it.

Apples Galore!  Annette and I chopped, boiled, strained, canned, boiled some more all day long!  We made applesauce up the ying yang.

downsized_1004081724aThe applesauce in these jars are "tinted" pink because we boil the skins in, and then strain them out...so the red skins tint the sauce.  It was pretty cool.  This is just a small portion.

Saturday night, mom and I were both in tears of laughter.  John is quite the character and had us rolling on the floor, and almost mom wetting her pants.  It wouldn't be funny to repeat it now, but it was soo great to laugh that hard!  I seem to always laugh hard when I am with my mom and brother.

Sunday was spent doing a little shopping and driving home.  Mom took Dad and I out to dinner in Coeur d' Alene.  Louie was in Chicago for his Grandfather's Funeral, so I had the house to myself.  Bentley and I lit a fire, watched all the shows I was behind on and fell asleep...

Onto another work week. :(
